In Triantafilleni a man says to his beloved that if he ever gets seriously ill, she should rush to his side and kiss him until his very last breath. Cucurrucucú Paloma tells the story of a man whose lover died, leaving him devastated. He is hopeless, cries, drinks and the only thing that soothes him is the cooing of a little dove (paloma), as he believes that the bird is the spirit of his lost love. I created this medley because I felt that both songs intricately portray how the powerful bond that love creates remains strong and unbreakable even when faced with the ultimate separation, death. When we love acknowledging our inevitable vulnerability to death, we open ourselves to a richer, deeper form of connection. In both songs this connection is the only antidote to the painful feelings of loneliness brought by imminent death (Triantafilleni) and living with loss (Cucurrucucú Paloma).
