This condition, known as Upward Fixation of the Patella (UFP), occurs when the patella becomes temporarily “locked” over the femur, preventing the horse from bending the hind limb normally. It can be seen in: ✔️ Young growing horses as their musculoskeletal system develops ✔️ Horses with excessively straight hindlimb conformation, which alters patellar mechanics ✔️ Horses on stall rest, where muscle atrophy, particularly in the gluteal region, contributes to reduced strength and function What You’ll Learn in This Video: ✔️ Why UFP occurs and how conformation plays a role ✔️ Common signs and symptoms of patellar locking ✔️ Management and exercise strategies to prevent or reduce occurrence ✔️ When veterinary intervention may be necessary 💬 Have you seen or managed this condition in a horse?
