Eminönü’nü adım adım geziyoruz

Eminönü’ndeyiz… İstanbul’un ritminin hiç düşmediği bir yerde. Burada her adım bir hikâye. Biz de şimdi bu hikâyelerin izini süreceğiz. İlk durağımız, iki kadın sultanın İstanbul’a miras bıraktığı Yeni Camii Külliyesi. Önce Yeni Camii Külliyesi’yle ilgili kısa bir bilgi vereyim, ardından gezimize başlayalım. Safiye Sultan, oğlu III. Mehmed’in saltanatı döneminde İstanbul’a görkemli bir camii kazandırmak ister. Şehrin yedi tepesi büyük camilerle süslüdür; bu yüzden gözler deniz kıyısına, yani Eminönü’ne çevrilir. 1597’de caminin temeli atılır. Ancak hastalık, ölüm gibi sebeplerle inşaat yarım kalır ve 60 yıl boyunca kaderine terk edilir, ta ki 1660 yılındaki büyük İstanbul yangınına kadar. Yangın sonrası halkın yaralarını sarmak için bölgeyi gezen IV. Mehmed’in annesi Hatice Turhan Sultan, yarım kalmış caminin temellerini görünce bu mabedi ayağa kaldırmaya karar verir. İnşaat yeniden başlatılır ve 1663’te Yeni Camii ibadete açılır. Camiyle birlikte külliyenin diğer parçaları da bir bir yükselir: Hünkâr Kasrı, arasta (bugünkü Mısır Çarşısı), türbe, sebil, çeşme, dârülkurrâ ve sıbyan mektebi… Sonraki yıllarda eklenen muvakkithane ile bu yapı topluluğu, Eminönü’nün siluetini tamamlayan bir şahesere dönüşür. Şimdi gelin bu mekanları hep birlikte gezelim… TOURİNG EMİNÖNÜ STEP BY STEP We are in Eminönü… a place where Istanbul’s rhythm never slows down. Here, every step tells a story. And now, we will follow the traces of these stories. Our first stop is the Yeni Camii Complex, left as a legacy to Istanbul by two women sultans. First, let me give you a brief overview of the Yeni Camii Complex, and then we’ll begin our tour. Safiye Sultan wanted to gift Istanbul a magnificent mosque during the reign of her son, III. Mehmed. The city’s seven hills were already adorned with grand mosques, so attention turned to the seaside, to Eminönü. The foundation of the mosque was laid in 1597. However, due to reasons such as illness and death, construction was left unfinished and abandoned for 60 years, until the great Istanbul fire of 1660. After the fire, Hatice Turhan Sultan, the mother of IV. Mehmed, traveled around the area to help heal the wounds of the people. Seeing the unfinished foundations of the mosque, she decided to bring this sanctuary to life. Construction restarted, and in 1663, the Yeni Camii was opened for worship. Alongside the mosque, the other parts of the complex gradually rose: Hünkâr Kasrı, the arasta (today’s Spice Bazaar), the tomb, sebil, fountain, dârülkurrâ, and sıbyan school… In the following years, with the addition of the muvakkithane, this ensemble of buildings became a masterpiece that completes the silhouette of Eminönü.
