#DIVEST! The "divest" or "divestiture" movement, is a game changing trend gaining momentum each year. Black women are leaving behind the "black community" to forge their own paths, removing themselves from the toxicity and violence of black men, as well as the limitations and burdens placed on black women by a culture deeply steeped in religious male-centric doctrine... a culture which dictates submissive service "roles" for African American women. Our discussion will address the dozens of ways black women have been failed by black men and the black community as a whole; the struggles, needs and current status of black women and girls; the impact of patriarchy and misogyny on black women and girls; and the gradual increase in black women "dating out" as they investigate #interracial #relationships and turn away from the "only but a black man" script for love and marriage. How can a black women divest from a community that is part of who she is? Are the grievances black women express legitimate problems, or blown out of proportion? Is it past time for black women to think more about their needs and desires as individuals, without concern for how black men feel about it?
