The Most Misunderstood Antagonist in Manga

Souta Washuu Furuta singlehandedly serves as many things to the narrative of Tokyo Ghoul. An insanely witty & intelligent antagonist, a foil to some of the most important characters in the series, an absurdist, a child soldier of the greatest power in the world, and even more. Throughout the story of Tokyo Ghoul re: , this character is written with so many intricacies, making it very difficult to really articulate just how amazing yet tragic of a character he is. Furuta would be born into this world as a half ghoul half human, & would understand that due to this, him & those who share similar origins as him would only live at most; 30 years. Correctly rationalizing this unfair truth of his existence as the fault of the Washuu, he would accept that life is inherently pointless, and seek to destroy the Washuu clan himself. With this thought in mind, he would be raised in the Sunlit Garden; where all those like him were shown one way to live and exposed to nothing else. Train to eliminate all ghouls & be a soldier to serve that cause until you die. There is no love for you, nor is there the normal life that everyone has. You probably won’t even be remembered. Furuta was not truly valued in anyway, nor would he ever have the chance to create innate value in himself by going on to live a normal life. To him, the world created him as something with no other purpose than to kill or be killed. Life & Death were almost synonymous from his perspective. Compared to others, his life was ultimately meaningless & pre-determined to be so, thanks to the Washuu & the World itself. So why not try to enjoy it as much as possible?
