First of all you should regularly top up your reservoir with fresh plain water and adjust the pH. This is because you will lose water via evaporation and transpiration via the leaves however the strength of the solution does not necessarily drop along with the level of the water. So, in some cases, as the reservoir content level drops the solution concentration actually increases and gets stronger. Add only fresh water and then adjust your pH accordingly. Try to keep accurate note of how much water you are putting in the reservoir to top it off. Once the amount of water added is equal to half of the reservoir's capacity then it's time to rinse the reservior and change the nutrient solution. For example if you have a 40 gallon reservoir and over the course of 12 days you have added 20 gallons of water, then it is time to change your solution.
