One of the things that came up in my discussions with the @bjbenterprises tech people was the moisture resistance of TC-808. I did a video last year on the "Top 5" resin issues and used TC-808 for my resin examples. The only problem was that TC-808 proved difficult to contaminate with moisture! Usually, a from of sweat, a damp stir stick, or a humid workshop can cause polyurethane to foam. For my "Top 5" resin problems video, I actually had to pour some water directly into the mixed resin to contaminate it! While at BJB I asked Troy if this means TC-808 can be cast directly into an alginate mold. Troy said he thought that would not be a problem so I ran this test! I had some fast set alginate sitting around my shop, so I made a quick mold of my hand. Once demolded, I cast a TC-5110F silicone hand (because I am frugal like that), and then cast the TC-808. I mainly cast the silicone hand because I hate to waste a chance to make a fake silicone hand and TC-5110F is soft enough that I don't have to destroy the alginate mold to get it out! . I cast the TC-808 and got excellent results! No moisture contamination, but I did get some dimples in the palm from the exotherm stage...more about that in the video. I thought this might be a helpful bit of info for those of you casting patterns and positives directly from alginate molds. I have not tried this with the TC-808 Jet Black formula but I suspect it would yield similar results. In the future I will also be posting some tests I did against water based clay. Here's what I used, and don't play with fire or explosives!!
