Our Mission in Motion | Foothills Conservancy of NC Foothills Conservancy of North Carolina permanently protects land and water in Western North Carolina for the benefit of people and all living things. For more than three decades, that mission has guided our work across the foothills — conserving family farms, protecting forests and wildlife habitat, improving river health, and expanding safe public access to the natural places that define this region. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Foothills Conservancy envisions a thriving region filled with beautiful places for all who live, work, and play here. We strive to be a healer and convener, building trust across communities and inspiring stewardship of the land, water, and working farms that sustain us. Serving Alexander, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Cleveland, Lincoln, McDowell, and Rutherford counties — within the Broad, Catawba, and Yadkin River basins — our work responds to community needs across land and water protection, farmland preservation, wildlife habitat improvement, forest health and stewardship, public park management, trail development and maintenance, expanding access to natural spaces, community education, and volunteer engagement.
