China Tanzania cooperation destroyed by Britain and Japan, it took two years to restart the project.

Tanzania initially defected from China and canceled investment contracts worth billions of dollars, awarding the projects to Britain and Japan. However, after two years, Tanzania sought China's help again and expressed a desire to restart the projects. The relationship between China and Tanzania dates back to the 1960s and 1970s when China sought support from emerging Asian and African nations. Tanzania and Zambia planned to develop mineral resources together, requiring a railway to transport the minerals to coastal areas. Both countries lacked the funds, and China offered assistance. The railway project faced delays and challenges due to complex terrain and interference from Western countries. China invested significant resources, including transporting materials from thousands of miles away. The completion of the railway, known as TAZARA, became a symbol of China-Africa friendship. In the 21st century, Tanzania aimed to revive the dilapidated Bagamoyo Port and sought China's support once again. China and Tanzania signed a memorandum of cooperation for the project, which would be undertaken by Hong Kong Merchants.
