The four Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) have all reached a level of operational maturity and are all undergoing a slow process of modernisation as older satellites are replaced with new generations of spacecraft, and additional signals and new services are introduced. In addition, many national and international agencies around the World are striving to address the known vulnerabilities of GNSS and other PNT technologies in order to provide robust and resilient PNT services across varied application domains. This presentation will consider the planned (and possible) developments of core GNSS provision and also review a number of international initiatives directed towards ensuring more robust and resilient PNT. About the speaker: Prof Terry Moore OBE is an Emeritus Professor and former Director of the Nottingham Geospatial Institute, a Past President of the RIN and an active member of the RIN's PNT Advisory Group. Terry was listed in the 2023 New Year Honours List for his services to satellite navigation. Terry is also actively involved with the US Institute of Navigation (ION). He is a member of the US National Space-Based Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) Advisory Board and of the European Space Agency (ESA) GNSS Science Advisory Committee. Terry also contributed to the UK Government’s Blackett Review on GNSS Vulnerability and has worked extensively with the UK Government on the PNT Strategy for the UK.
