This is an instructional video on how to remove a Feeding Jejunostomy Tube at home. As a result of COVID-19, patients are unable to come into hospital to have their feeding jejunostomy tubes removed. While there is no extra risk associated with leaving jejunostomy tubes in for long periods of time, we recognise they can be uncomfortable and an inconvenience to have in for longer than is necessary. Removal of feeding jejunostomy tubes is incredibly low risk and requires no special skill or equipment, as such we decided it may help some patients to create an instructional video detailing how they (or a family member) can take their tubes out themselves. A couple of points that weren't mentioned in the video: It can often help to lie flat whilst removing the tube, simply as it is easier to access when the abdomen is flat and not tensed. The feeding tube should be left in for a minimum of 3 weeks before being removed - taking it out before then can increase risk of leakage and infection. Following removal, the dressing need only be kept on for one day. After which point it is fine to remove the dressing and shower as normal.
