#farming #foreignerandfilipina #filipinocountrysidelife #islandliving #foreignerinthephilippines Today we came to our farm to plant more bananas. This is another variety called Morado. The fruits are red on the outside and yellow on the inside. They are also very sweet and delicious. We also have a new orchid plant. They have purple and white flowers. Darry dug some holes and we planted our banana trees. To celebrate we had a very refreshing coconut juice. We also cut some firewood and stored it in our canopy. This is great, we will have enough firewood to last for many months. There are small bees living inside a hollow piece of wood. They are called Kiyot or native bees. Darry told us that these bees are similar to honey bees as they also produce honey but in smaller quantity. There are several people who came to our farm to clean our coconut trees from parasitic ferns. In exchange for their work, they get to keep all the ripe coconuts they find. They have their machetes and they started working. These trees have been neglected before, that's why there are so many parasitic ferns growing around them. They are called governor ferns. They grow very thick and when they reach the top of the coconut, the trees will eventually die. Some dangerous creatures also live in these ferns like centipedes and snakes. We are happy to get rid of these parasites so that our trees will grow healthy and give us fruit in the next few months. After cleaning our trees, the workers collected their coconuts. They will make copra from the coconut meat. They will also make charcoal from the coconut shells. They have a wonderful helper with them - a hardworking carabao.
