The Wreck of IJN Maya – Broken on The Seabed

Many ships were lost around the Philippine Islands during World War Two. A good portion have, in the years since, been located at various depths. One of the shallower wrecks is that of the Japanese heavy cruiser, Maya. Converted into a (poor) anti-aircraft cruiser, this ship was found just shy of two kilometers down, by RV Petrel in 2019. That two kilometers is considered 'shallow' speaks more to how deep the other wrecks are. In any case, Maya is remarkably intact.
