Mortal Kombat Conquest Season: 1 Episode: 14 Title: Past Sins Brief plot description: In Earthrealm, Shang Tsung is walking through the forest when Reiko finds him. He demands to go with him to Shao Kahn, but Shang Tsung refuses and a fight ensues. Reiko seriously wounds the sorcerer, but Shang Tsung manages to open a portal and escape. Meanwhile, at the estate, Raiden is about to send Janet Cage to her brother to try again to persuade Johnny Cage to join them. Suddenly, a portal opens and an unconscious Shang Tsung falls before them. Raiden and Janet lock the sorcerer in a basement cell, and when he comes to, he asks not to hand him over to the Emperor. He tells Raiden that he was once like him - the protector of Earthrealm. Shang Tsung tells about his past life: he had a friend, John, and a girl, Omidges. He and John were supposed to represent Earthrealm in the Mortal Kombat tournament. Omidges wanted power and might and was more attracted to Outworld. Then she persuaded Shang Tsung to secretly meet with the Emperor and Shang Tsung promised Shao Kahn to compete in the tournament against Earthrealm and his friends. When the tournament began, Shang Tsung was declared the Champion of Outworld, and to prove his loyalty, he had to fight his friend John, the Champion of Earthrealm. At the tournament, Shang Tsung killed John and Shao Kahn taught him how to steal other people's souls. Shang Tsung told Raiden that he regretted his decision, because after that, Omidges betrayed him. She took advantage of his position at the Emperor's court and became one of Shao Kahn's concubines. What happened to her now - Shang Tsung does not know. But since then, he hated the Emperor, but was forced to serve him. Sitting in a cell, Shang Tsung looks into the broken glass lying nearby and sees Omidges there. Kung Lao and Li Mei return from the city and learn about their prisoner from Janet. Kung Lao wants to kill Shang Tsung, but Raiden does not allow it and tells them his story. Kung Lao and Li Mei do not believe a single word the sorcerer says. Suddenly, the estate is surrounded by an army from Outworld led by Reiko. They take several villagers hostage. Reiko demands that the sorcerer be handed over, otherwise he will kill one person for every hour of delay. Kung Lao is ready to hand over Shang Tsung, but Raiden enters into negotiations with Reiko and challenges him to a duel, since Shao Kahn's army has no place here while the Earth is protected by the laws of Mortal Kombat, and if Reiko does not agree, Raiden threatens to summon the God of Fire. Reiko agrees and almost defeats Raiden, but Raiden manages to gain the upper hand. In the midst of the battle, Kung Lao makes his way to Shang Tsung's cell to kill him, but finds Li Mei tied up and gagged there. She says that she wanted to kill Shang Tsung herself, but he escaped. Kung Lao frees Li Mei, who stuns him. It turns out that it was Shang Tsung who created the illusion. He knocks out real Li Mei with a fireball, but he is still too weak to teleport away from the estate. Then the sorcerer goes out into the courtyard, where, in front of Raiden, he takes the souls of several soldiers of the defeated Reiko and the soul of one villager. Having regained his power, he disappears and Raiden and Janet are unable to stop him. Kung Lao and Li Mei eventually quarrel with Raiden because he did not kill Shang Tsung when he had the chance. But Raiden reminds them of the rules of Mortal Kombat and says that sooner or later he will kill him, but in the tournament. Raiden says that he did not think that he and Shang Tsung would have anything in common, judging by his story. Meanwhile, in his forest hideout, Shang Tsung remembers the true story of his past: his friend John loved Omidges, although she did not reciprocate his feelings. Out of jealousy, Shang Tsung sided with Outworld and killed John in the tournament. Shao Kahn taught him how to steal souls - this part of the story Shang Tsung did not make up. What he did not say was that Omidges was horrified by what he had become and abandoned him. Shang Tsung then took her soul to be with him forever, thus winning Shao Kahn's trust and affection.
