#Germlayer #Ectoderm #Endoderm #Mesoderm #Formation #Derivatives #Diploblastic #Triploblastic Germ layer Germ layers may be defined as primary layer of cells behaving as a unit during the early stages of embryonic development and giving rise to distinctly different tissue or organ system in the adult. During gastrulation the cells of the inner cell mass of blastula move in a small mass to their new final location. Such movement of cells is called morphogenetic movements. Gastrulation results in the formation of three germ layers: ectoderm, mesoderm and endoderm. Based on number of distinguishable germ layer, multicellular animals with tissue or organ grade of organization, are divided into two groups. a) Diploblastic: These animals have two distinct germ layers formed by the movement of cells into the interior of the embryo. b) Triploblastic: All higher invertebrates from Platyhelminths to mammals are triploblastic which are bilaterally symmetrical. In triploblastic condition a third cellular germ layer, the mesoderm arises between the outer ectoderm and inner endoderm.
