The Lake Erie District in particular is a newer district on NS's system, being created sometime in 2004. It was formerly a part of the Cleveland District, but the line was split into two districts, the portion from Buffalo to East Cleveland being the Lake Erie District, and the portion from Cleveland to Bellevue being the Cleveland District. The line carries 10 daily trains and several as needed trains. CSX Erie West Sub The Erie West Subdivision is a railroad line owned by CSX Transportation in the U.S. states of Pennsylvania and Ohio. The line runs from Derby, New York southwest along the shore of Lake Erie to Cleveland, Ohio, along the former New York Central Railroad main line. At its east end (west of downtown Erie), the Erie West Subdivision becomes the Lake Shore Subdivision; at its west end (east of downtown Cleveland), it becomes the Cleveland Terminal Subdivision. This subdivision is also known as the Great Lakes Service Lane. Amtrak's Lake Shore Limited and Capitol Limited use the Erie West Subdivision. Erie, PA Erie is a city on the south shore of Lake Erie and the county seat of Erie County, Pennsylvania. Erie is the fifth largest city in Pennsylvania after Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Allentown, and Reading, and the largest city in Northwestern Pennsylvania,[2][3] with a population of 94,831 at the 2020 census.[2] The estimated population in 2021 had decreased to 93,928.[4] The Erie metropolitan area, equivalent to all of Erie County, consists of 266,096 residents. The Erie-Meadville combined statistical area had a population of 369,331 at the 2010 census. Erie is roughly equidistant from Buffalo and Cleveland, each being about 100 miles (160 kilometers) away. Erie's manufacturing sector remains prominent in the local economy, though insurance, healthcare, higher education, technology, service industries, and tourism are emerging as significant economic drivers. As with the other Great Lakes port cities, Erie is accessible to the oceans via the Lake Ontario and St. Lawrence River network in Canada. The local climate is humid, four-seasonal and snowy but retains moderated winters thanks to the lakeside location. The city was named for the Native American Erie people who lived in the area until the mid-17th century. It is known as the "Flagship City" because of its status as the home port of Oliver Hazard Perry's flagship Niagara.[6] It is also known as the "Gem City" because of the water's gem like appearance when the Sun is out. Erie won the All-America City Award in 1972. In 2012, Erie hosted the Perry 200 a commemoration celebrating 200 years of peace between Britain, America, and Canada following the War of 1812 and Battle of Lake Erie. North East, PA North East is a Borough in Erie County, 14 miles (23 km) northeast of Erie PA. Fruit growing was an early economic endeavor, and is still to this day, as this is a popular area for cherries and grapes. Additionally, the town has a very strong industrial base with several food service and manufacturing companies providing jobs and revenue for the area. The two volunteer fire companies that serve the Borough hold an annual Cherry Festival in July. An annual Wine Country Harvest Festival is the highlight of fall in September, and many other community events throughout the year make North East a memorable place. North East is served by the top-rated North East School District and other private elementary schools. The name North East seems to be a misnomer since the borough is located in extreme northwestern Pennsylvania, but it is so named for its northeastern-most location within Erie County. Downtown North East is on the National Registry of Historic Places and has been since the early 1990’s. North East is also home to some of the best fishing in the world with steelhead, perch and whitefish being the primary game fish. Thanks for watching!
