Former defence minister Christopher Pyne says during former prime minister Tony Abbott’s time in government, there were too many people in the Liberal party room who “didn’t like” him. This came after a disastrous 2014 budget and a few bad decisions which led to a leadership spill within the Liberal Party. “There were too many people in the party room that didn’t like Tony,” Mr Pyne told Sky News host Chris Kenny. “There were a couple of catastrophic decisions which caused a good third of the party room to decide they weren’t on the Tony Abbott bus. “One of those was not giving the party room a conscience vote on same-sex marriage.”
