Kil's Journey: A Double Lung Transplant Story

Kil's inspiring journey highlights the power of organ donation and the exceptional care provided by University of Utah Health. After being diagnosed with Interstitial Lung Disease, Kil faced a life-changing double lung transplant on November 30, 2022. With the expert guidance of Dr. Matthew Morrell, Professor of Medicine and Medical Director of the Lung Transplant Program, and Dr. Matthew Goodwin, Assistant Professor of Surgery, Kil's recovery was remarkable. Just six months post-transplant, Kil embraced life anew by running his first 5K, stating, “I realized I had a whole life I can start planning now.” His story showcases not only the resilience of individuals facing health challenges but also the significant impact of organ donation on patients and families. In July 2024, Kil participated in the Transplant Games of America, joining thousands of transplant recipients to honor the gift of life and raise awareness for organ donation and transplantation.
