High and Dry off the 1995 Bends album, my fave Radiohead record! This song was recorded as a demo during the sessions for their first album, Pablo Honey, and was remastered for inclusion on The Bends. Good idea! It's just another superb vocal from Thom Yorke. Ok, it's not just another. This is quite simply top of the game Rock Singing. These videos serve as lessons on how I play this bunch of Pop, Rock, and Reggae songs - sometimes as a single guitarist playing the only guitar part, though that's rare. And sometimes if there is more than one guitar part, then trying to find the single good path through the tune. I complete one pass, demonstrating different Rhythm parts, styles, and techniques. There is no talking. No discussion. No note-for-note explanations. As such, for clarity, my guitar is supposed to be louder in the mix than it would ever be in a live setting. But, if you really want to hear what I hear, do what I do and put on a good pair headphones with great bass response! It's worth it. Why this is important to Rhythm Guitar: Just because something is simple, or easy, does not mean that it's not worth playing. It is. There are just so many examples of songs which are ridiculously simple, but everyone bloody loves them. The real question is why? The answer is often found through putting yourself into the position of the listener. Most of whom are not musicians. Those guys are your audience. People who don't understand the structure of music, but they know what touches their heart. That's all you need right there, and not a bit more. This song does exactly that. The Electric Guitar is completely secondary to the Acoustic here. It's just there for adding power. And guts. And as ever, it's all in service to the Vocal.
