Nonjuror - THE NIGHTCAP // SP-404MKII Beat Tape

A little on the production of this album: all samples, drums and all, were sampled from vinyl - in fact, for the most part, just one record - the release date of this joint marks the 2nd anniversary of the first time I listened to this particular album which turned out to be the last album I'd listen to with my old man. My concept for this project was to write an album from start to finish (opposed to just pulling together a bunch of this year's beats out of a bucket) and flip each of the 8 songs from the original vinyl. The consequent beats on this tape are presented in the order I made them...which is to say beat one is a flip of the first song on the original vinyl. To (attempt to) get a more congruent sound I've kept the gear / workflow the same for each joint. 1. First I sampled the entire record, track by track, on to the BOSS SP-303 at it's "LONG" sample rate [22.05 kHz], bounced that back into my DAW n saved them WAVs to my phone. 2. Earlier this year I was in İzmir, Türkiye, staying in a small coastal town on the Mediterranean Sea. I took with me these samples and my ROLAND SP-404MKII, on which I made all the beats. 3. When I got back home to Hamburg I cleaned up and mixed these beats, recorded the guitar solo on the title track, "The Nightcap", and mastered each track to an AKAI X-200D Reel-to-reel...I bought a new real of tape for it too. Dad probably wouldn't have found this album to his taste (except for the last track, I think that one is more down his alley), which is all gravy, but I think he would've appreciated that I had a concept for the production...and the booze themed track titles.
