EPISODE 17 of the Iberian Trail Adventure Series The expedition nearly fell apart thanks to failing tyres and damaged wheels. This episode follows my final push to reach Oviedo, make critical repairs to the Cruiser alongside a new friend, and finally make a full upgrade with a brand-new wheel and tyre setup I’ve seen in After days stranded in the mountains with no spare tire, cracked rims, and one bad decision away from disaster, this episode finally marks a turning point. I start the day wild camping high in the remote Asturian mountains – still solo, still deep in a web of forgotten off-road trails, and still trying to reach the city of Oviedo to collect my long-awaited new wheels and tires... What lies ahead is 80 kilometers of brutal terrain, no backup spare, and the lingering risk that one more sidewall failure could end the expedition for good. HUGE thanks to David & Katy from / @incansablesoffroad !! ▶ In this episode: – Descending 1,000m off a mountain on a 35° slope – Scenic 4x4 trails through rural Spain’s forgotten backcountry – Wild camping, mechanical tension, and mapless navigation – Finally reaching Oviedo after days of trying – Fitting new tyres and @euro4x4parts rims – Solving a long-term water tank leak, upgrading the heat exchanger, and fixing critical issues in a rural 4x4 workshop – Unexpected local hospitality from new friends in the off-road scene – Taking part in a local Asturian carnival in the most unexpected way – Returning to the trail with a stronger vehicle, a clearer head, and a new sense of momentum 👍 Like the build? From the Pyrenees to the Atlantic, it’s a solo overland journey in a self-built 1993 Toyota Land Cruiser HZJ73 camper, avoiding pavement wherever possible, navigating forgotten trails, and confronting the harsh reality of long-term remote vehicle travel in Europe. This is raw, unscripted overlanding – from high-altitude mountain passes and hidden forest tracks, to mechanical breakdowns, wild camping, and real-time decision-making in some of the continent’s last remaining wilderness areas. The vehicle: DIY-built, fully built Land Cruiser expedition rig designed for serious backcountry exploration and total self-reliance. The mission? To prove that true remote adventure still exists in Europe – and to experience every inch of it from behind the wheel. #Overlanding #IberianTrail #LandCruiserBuild #4x4Expedition #WildCamping #SpainOverland #SoloTravel #OffRoadEurope #ToyotaLandCruiser #ExpeditionLife #PicosDeEuropa #Asturias #RemoteTrails
