There are about 7000 thousand languages in the world and each of them with unique characteristics with different words and structures. Could it be that these differences change the way the speakers see the world? In this video, I talk about the Sapir Whorf Hypothesis, the versions of the hypothesis, and the alleged evidence and criticism of the evidence. I also talk about the unique aboriginal Australian group, they speak Guugu Yimithirr language and they perceive space differently from the average speakers. I also talk about how language influence how we think about time and how it helps speakers remember certain accidents. I also talk about the movie Arrival and how they depict the Sapir Whorf hypothesis, how pronouns affect social reality, and George Orwell's work about the premise of Sapir-Whorf hypothesis. Lastly, I talk about the detrimental effect of language deprivation, the case of Genie the feral child, the effects of not learning sign language for deaf people, and how deaf people think.
