History and Present of Browary Warszawskie (Turn on Subtitles/CC to read details about this place while watching the video. They start at 1:30 and update every 15 seconds) 1. Origins and Brewery Glory (1846–1939) Browary Warszawskie was established in 1846 as the Haberbusch and Schiele brewery. It quickly became the largest brewery in Warsaw and one of the most important in Poland. Its beer was popular nationwide and the brewery’s success helped shape the identity of the Wola district. 2. WWII and Postwar Years (1939–1972) During World War II the brewery played a significant role in the Warsaw Uprising, with its depots storing weapons and its supplies helping feed the city. In 1948 the brewery was nationalized and renamed Warsaw Brewing Plants. It produced well-known beer brands such as Królewskie, Specjal, and Porter. In 1972 it became the first place in Poland to produce Coca-Cola under license. 3. Decline and Closure (2004–2016) Beer production at the site ended in 2004. After that the area stood abandoned, with its historic buildings falling into disrepair. For years it remained a neglected part of Wola despite its central location. 4. Revitalization and Renewal (2016–2021) In 2016 the developer Echo Investment purchased the 4.4-hectare site and began a major revitalization project. The design by JEMS Architekci combined new residential and office buildings with preserved historic structures such as the brewhouse, lager cellars, brewer’s villa, and laboratory. Construction was completed in 2021, transforming the area into a modern urban quarter. 5. Today (2025) Today Browary Warszawskie is a lively district that blends history with modern life. It features apartments, offices, restaurants, bars, and green public spaces. Visitors can enjoy food halls, cultural spaces, gardens, and restored industrial architecture. It has become one of the most attractive meeting spots in Warsaw for both residents and tourists. 6. Recognition and Location Browary Warszawskie is located in the Wola district of central Warsaw, bordered by Grzybowska, Wronia, Chłodna, and Krochmalna streets. The project has received international recognition, including the MAPIC Award 2022 for Best Urban Regeneration, the SARP Award of the Year 2021 for Best Public Space, and the Grand Prix of the Mayor of Warsaw Architectural Award. It is now seen as a symbol of successful urban renewal and adaptive reuse of historic sites. Note about the sound: There was a lot of great background music during the walk, but I had to remove it due to copyright. In those spots, the sound might be slightly distorted - thanks for understanding. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🎥 Filming: 🕙 Time - Afternoon (2 PM) 📅 Date - Weekday, August 2025 ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ☕ Support the channel: Buy me a coffee - https://buymeacoffee.com/romanwalks ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ If you enjoyed this walk, don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more relaxing city walks and hidden gems in Warsaw.
