There's one thing that helps you get a great electric guitar tone/sound irrespective of what amplifier you're using. This key element is having a sound in your head that you can use as a template to dial in with any amp. A lot of people don't know what sound they want and struggle to get a "good sound" to them while others can plug in and get a great sound right away. This comes down to experience but also knowing what works, what you like, and how it works well with pedals.
