The weather in Gran Canaria is hot. Constantly. It’s literally a hot spot for Winter Sun chasers. The south of Gran Canaria sees the sun for 50 weeks in a year, would you believe it, and even in those remaining 2 weeks, it doesn’t go below the mid-teens. It does have a micro-climate across the island though, so if you want a slice of home, head up to the mountains, where the temperature is a little cooler and sometimes it even rains! What’s hot and what’s not? If you’re travelling to Gran Canaria in the Summer then it’s going to be hot! Maspalomas usually sits around 30 degrees in the day time and at night time it’s still pretty warm, about 23 degrees. Yep, so that’s in the Summer. In the Winter time, it’s going to be a bit cooler so early twenties in the day time, late teens at night and in the evening. If you want to see the most of the sun, stick to the south of the island, where it has that tropical climate and you’ll see around 50 weeks of sunshine in the whole year. Gran Canaria is an island of micro-climates though, so if you’re going to head into the interior island, where it’s all a bit more mountainous, and you’re getting higher above sea-level, then be aware that it’s going to be colder. Don’t do what we did, which is go in February, which is right in the middle of Winter and it was off the back of the biggest storm that the Canary Islands had seen in years and years and years. Our camera crew just had to all abandon ship and we ran home sad and soggy. The crux of that is: if you’re going to go up the mountains then do definitely do that, but perhaps not in February, when there’s been a massive storm. It is really hot and beautiful most of the time, just don’t go up a mountain in February. Don’t get caught out like we did. Right, no one told us. So we’re telling you. Don’t forget to subscribe!
