The field (EDNO, Noerdlingen, Bavaria) is not too short (2400 ft) but the (prescribed) traffic pattern is narrow. With the SR22 you have to fly a pretty steep turn to get onto the final from downwind of runway 04. Due to the steep turn I held the nose of the airplane low to stay away from the critical AOA but the price I paid for that was that I was too fast - and still too high - on final. I tried to save it with a slip but had to go around. On the second attempt I was too fast again and slammed it onto the runway so hard that we bounced three times before I went around again. I should not have let that happen, because the chance for a propstrike or to even loss control is high. WHY I did not go around immediately - i can only guess, but i think it all happened too quickly. I wish i had that on video because the bounces were pretty violent - but my son inadvertently switched off the iPhone. What did not help my concentration was the constant "pull up" from the EGPWS system. Looks like the small field is not in the database of the terrain system which is funny because the airfield exists for more than half a century. I have now ordered a new database for the EGPWS. But of course I could have simply inhibited the system (inhibit button the panel!). I regularly fly to short fields in my SR22 and I landed on runways as short as 1300 feet. I think my last 100 landings were all good and very good. But only the last one counts ... The lesson is always the same: Go around early, do not let it happen. Three landing attempts are much better than a bent airplane, ... or worse. ++++++++++ Unfortunately I had to disable the comments. There were many nice ones but also a lot of insults, and I can live very well without those. To the ones of you who have not made a bad landing: All you have to do is wait!
