Final bout of the Genova 2025 European Championships Men's Sabre Individual between Remi GARRIGUE of France and Aron SZILAGYI of Hungary. On the Right: Remi GARRIGUE Remi GARRIGUE is only 20 years old. While Garrigue does not have any individual medals at the senior level, he made top 8 at the Budapest and Madrid World Cup this season. Garrigue is a successful fencer at the junior level, and has started fencing on the French Senior Team for team events this season. On the Left: Aron SZILAGYI That's Aron SZILAGYI - Olympic Champion 2012, 2016, 2021. Having recently come back from some kind of foot surgery, SZILAGYI has not fenced for most of the season, made a top 64 at Seoul Grand Prix then a top 32 finish at Madrid World Cup. SZILAGYI entered this competition as World Rank 63 and got to the finals by only beating one fencer ranked in the FIE Top 16 Rankings - JP Patrice, who while is also on the French team, is coached by Vincent ANSTETT instead of SCHNEIDER. Coincidentally, the only time SZILAGYI has won Individual European Championships was exactly 10 years ago. This is the first time these two fencers have faced each other.
