Three Panthers were named to the Missouri Valley Conference's (MVC) Scholar-Athlete Team. Will Hornseth, Kyle Pock and Tristan Smith were among 17 student-athletes honored for their academic excellence in the classroom and on the court. Will was also named to the MVC Most Improved Team, it comes a season after setting a UNI single season record for field goal percentage when he shot 68 % from the floor. His career shooting clip of .636 ranks first in program history for athletes with at least 100 made field goals. This is the first year Will has received a conference honor. Leon Bond III was named to the All-Defensive Team, the Wisconsin native earns his first MVC season honor. He averages a career-best 11.5 points per game and leading Northern Iowa in rebounds. He also had a team-best 25 blocked shots, ranking in the top-ten in the league….and grabbed 27 steals. Trey Campbell was named to the All-Defensive Team, and earned a Second Team All-MVC…after landing on the 3rd team last season. Campbell a Cedar Falls native, leads the team with over 13 points per game, and has a team best 67 made 3’s. His 57 steals and 135 assists both rank top 3 in the MVC. Campbell became the first UNI Panthers to have 1000 career points, 500 career rebounds and 300 career assists. The conference tournament Arch Madness brought even more hardware. As the Panthers won the schools 6th Missouri Valley Conference Tournament title, securing it’s 9th trip to the big dance. Leon Bond III was named to the All-Tournament Team. Bond scored a team best 18 points in the semi’s against Bradley, had a game high 19 points against Illinois State, and 10 points against Evansville. A team high 23 points in the championship game for Trey Campbell included a career high 6 made 3’s, and earned him the Doug Elgin Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament. Trey is the 6th Panther to be named Tournament MVP. Trey also scored 13 points with 6 assists against Bradley, 12 points and 6 rebounds against Illinois State, and started the tournament with game high 23 points, and 3 blocked shots over Evansville.
