Antoni Muntadas is a New York-based artist who is currently Visiting Professor at the MIT Program in Art, Culture and Technology in Cambridge, MA, and the Instituto Universitario de Arquitectura del Veneto, Venice. He was the subject of a solo exhibition at The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery in Toronto, Canada in 1988, and we are pleased to welcome him back to speak in the context of our 25th anniversary programming. Muntadas work addresses social, political and communications issues such as the relationship between public and private space within social frameworks, and investigates channels of information and the ways they may be used to censor or promulgate ideas. This pioneering conceptual artist’s projects are presented in different media such as photography, video, publications, the internet, installations, and urban interventions. His work has been exhibited extensively around the world in solo and group exhibitions, including the recent retrospective Entre/Between at the Museo Reina Sofía, Madrid (2011–12), curated by Daina Augaitis, and the touring exhibition About Academia (2011). Video produced by John Verhaeven.
