This past weekend of the Pumpkin Train event was the first time both 15" gauge ex-Milwaukee County Zoo steam locomotives, Atlantic No. 1916 and Pacific No. 1924, operated together at the Riverside & Great Northern Railway in Wisconsin Dells after 1924 arrived at the RGN following the conclusion of steam operations at the Zoo. We ride behind 1916, meeting the other train coming back east at the Camp Siding Pumpkin Patch. I was at first surprised to see RGN's diesel locomotive No. 940 leading the train on the east end, with 1924 on the west end. Then I remembered that 1924 is too long for the existing turntable at "Hyde Park," the east end of the line. At "Western Springs," the end of the line, the crew turns 1916, runs it around and we head back and make our pumpkin patch stop. We meet 1924 now leading its next westbound run, with the diesel uncoupled and following behind the train.
