I’m converting a Dodge Ram Promaster into a tiny home on wheels! In this video I build the kitchenette! I install butcher block counters, an undermount sink, and an alcohol stove with it’s own little cubby hole! Look below for slightly more detailed instructions. My wife, Misty, and I love to travel, hike, rock climb, bike, laugh, make movies, and a ton of other stuff! Enjoy the show! Steps And Products For The Build: This will be the worst step by step you’ve ever read! So here goes… The kitchenette is primarily built out of 2x2s joined together with pocket screws. I built the main rectangular structure first to make sure it all fits. After that I started with the cubby area for the alcohol stove. We went with alcohol because we didn’t want anything propane. This means we didn’t have to cut any vent holes into the van. This cubby area was also built with 2x2s and skinned with 1/4 inch lauan and then later with thin aluminum sheet metal attached with liquid nails. I wanted this extra layer for heat protection. After that, I moved onto the drawers. The drawers are built with 1/2 sanded birch. I used some soft close slides I got from Home Depot. They are pretty pricey at about $24 a pair and in hindsight I wish I didn’t waste my time. They honestly work but not great and that is most likely a fault of my own. However, the drawers are glued together and secured with pocket screws. I added some 1/2 x 2 inch trim strips to the face of the structure and then made the drawers flush with more 1/2 inch thick sanded birch. The sanded birch was also used as the doors. I then painted everything white using a regular interior, low VOC, semi-gloss paint. The butcher block we used as the counter was found at Southeaster Salvage. I got an 8 foot block for $100, which was well worth it. We also found the undermount sink at a different home goods salvage store. I used several coats of tung oil. I didn’t like working with this stuff, it can get a little blotchy, so if I did it again I would go with mineral oil and a good wax instead. The counter was then secured with 4 inch headlok screws inset to be flush. I coated the screws and the predrilled holes with silicone before drilling. Why did I do it like this rather than just use angle brackets underneath? I didn’t feel that angle brackets would be enough in case of a crash and I didn’t have access because of the sink. The sink came with undermount hardware. I used those and a bead of silicone around the edge of the sink. As far as plumbing goes… We are using the two 6 gallon water containers we found at Walmart. One for grey water, the other for fresh. And a foot pump. The water hose goes from the fresh, to the foot pump, from the foot pump, to the faucet. Once it was all done, I attached it to the studs and floor of the van using 2 1/2 and 3 inch spax construction screws. There may be something I am missing, but that Is what I can remember. Tools Used: Ryobi Drill, Miter Saw, Jigsaw, Skil Saw, Kreg Jig Various sized and designed screws The “F” word and copious amounts of sweet, sweet IPA beer. I AM 100% NOT A PROFESSIONAL OR AN EXPERT! THIS IS ALL BASED ON RESEARCH WE HAVE DONE AND REFERENCING PICTURES. THIS IS JUST TO EXPLAIN WHAT I DID, NOT WHAT YOU SHOULD DO! #diyvanconversion #vanlife #vanconversion
