Large-format additive manufacturing enables a new approach to boatbuilding by combining structural performance, production efficiency, and circular economy principles. This case study presents Beluga, a joint research project by Caracol and NextChem (part of the Maire Tecnimont Group) focused on producing a one-piece 3D printed sailing boat prototype using recycled polymer material. By replacing traditional mold-based fiberglass processes with a proprietary robotic additive manufacturing system, the project achieved reduced lead times, lower production costs, and improved sustainability while maintaining structural and performance requirements. 🎯 Key outcomes: • One-piece large part manufactured without molds • Reduced material waste and production complexity • Use of recycled polymers for structural applications • Shorter lead times and improved process efficiency • A concrete example of circular economy in marine manufacturing 👉 Check out the full playlist • Case Studies | Industrial Applications of ... 👉 Stay tuned for more Case Studies to discover interesting applications and real-world use cases.
