A cattle feed additive called Bovaer that suppresses the enzyme that triggers the production of methane in cows has been introduced into the beef and dairy supply of supermarkets such as Coles and Aldi. Bovaer is made using silicon dioxide, propylene glycol and a compound called 3-nitrooxypropanol. This has caused massive backlash with many taking to social media to express their concerns and outrage at the decision, stating they will be boycotting supermarkets and brands that use this chemical additive. However the manufacturer of Bovaer state that the additive is allegedly safe and is completely broken down in the digestive process and won’t be present in any beef or dairy products. However all of this aside, if a cow is eating its evolutionary diet and grazing on grass in the paddock 24/7 rather than factory farmed, something like Bovaer becomes an unnatural solution to something that isn’t a problem in the first place. Cows are a part of a natural biological cycle where methane plays its necessary role and is eventually converted back to carbon dioxide that plants use for photosynthesis. Not to mention cattle emissions pale in comparison to human based emissions. The solution isn’t a chemical feed additive but instead grass-fed, grass-finished regeneratively farmed animals/practices that restore soil biodiversity, the water cycle and therefore the ecosystem. When we can have the plants, animals and microbes coexisting symbiotically we can support natural cycles that address this so called methane “problem”. In other words, it’s never been a better time than now to support your local regenerative farmers. Thanks for watching, if you enjoyed this video please hit the SUBSCRIBE button!
