Leather bag and luggage factories in Shiling Town, a major leather making hub in southern China, are humming with activity amidst peak export season. With the wintertime holidays fast approaching, local manufacturers say they've been running at full capacity to fulfill a surge in orders from global retailers eager to replenish their inventory. Data shows that in the first seven months of the year, the town exported about 310 million pieces of bags and luggage and leather goods, up 7.5 percent year on year, with the total export value reaching nearly three billion U.S. dollars. Shiling Town is home to more than 8,000 companies that manufacture over 700 million pieces of bags and luggage and leather products annually.
