Adrian Lyne's film of Vladimir Nabokov's novel was a hot potato for film distributors in 1997 so Showtime bought the exclusive theatrical and TV rights and premiered it in the US on the Showtime channel on August 2, 1998, at 9pm. This is the main fragment of the introduction by the director. I haven't seen it posted anywhere else. Found on a recently acquired estate-sale VHS tape. I've read the novel and seen both film versions and I like them all. The novel is great and both movies are very good, each in their own way. All rights reserved to Showtime.
