Damòs è uno dei più piccoli borghi d’Italia. La chiesa del borgo di Damòs, dedicata a San Giovanni Battista e a Sant’Andrea (santi protettore dei boscaioli impiegati storicamente in questa zona nelle attività di reperimento e trasporto del legname a valle), risale al 1348 e costituisce il fulcro di questo antico insediamento situato sul confine dei comuni di Valle e Pieve di Cadore, ad un’altitudine di 750 metri s.l.m. L’edificio sacro, di origine medievale, sorge in un’area pianeggiante e panoramica affacciata sul punto di confluenza tra il torrente Boite e il fiume Piave in prossimità del paese di Perarolo. Nella chiesa si trova un ciclo di affreschi che rappresenta la Crocifissione, considerato la più antica attestazione di questo tema iconografico nel Cadore. Il crocifisso ligneo del XV-XVI secolo è caratterizzato da dettagli anatomici accurati e un'espressione intensa di sofferenza. Nel borgo c’è anche l’azienda agricola Damòs che è specializzata nella coltivazione di fiori ed erbe officinali, che vengono trasformati in cosmetici naturali e prodotti per la cura del corpo. L'azienda si dedica anche al turismo rurale, offrendo alloggio, prima colazione e iniziative culturali legate alla tradizione rurale del Cadore. Inoltre, gestisce una fattoria didattica, proponendo laboratori per bambini e famiglie. Damòs is one of the smallest villages in Italy. The church of Damòs, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and Saint Andrew (patron saints of the lumberjacks historically employed in this area in the procurement and transportation of timber downstream), dates back to 1348 and is the heart of this ancient settlement located on the border between the municipalities of Valle and Pieve di Cadore, at an altitude of 750 meters above sea level. The sacred building, of medieval origin, stands in a flat, panoramic area overlooking the confluence of the Boite and Piave rivers near the village of Perarolo. The church features a fresco cycle depicting the Crucifixion, considered the oldest example of this iconographic theme in the Cadore area. The 15th-16th century wooden crucifix is characterized by accurate anatomical details and an intense expression of suffering. The village also features the Damòs farm, specializing in the cultivation of flowers and medicinal herbs, which are transformed into natural cosmetics and body care products. The farm also focuses on rural tourism, offering accommodations, breakfast, and cultural events related to the rural traditions of Cadore. It also runs an educational farm, offering workshops for children and families.
