This video is a full brake bleeding procedure for my MK6 GTI. I just got done replacing all four brake calipers and the parking brake cable after two of the calipers decided to start seizing up on me. Front Caliper Replacement: • MK6 VW GTI Front Brake Caliper Replacement Rear Caliper Replacement: • MK6 VW GTI Rear Brake Caliper Replacement NOTE ABOUT BLEEDING SEQUENCE It’s been known for a long time that, when you bleed brakes, you always start with the caliper that is the furthest away from the location of the master cylinder and work your way to the closest. In this case it’s PASS Rear, DR Rear, PASS Front, DR Front. This is how I did it in this video initially. But I found out in the middle of this job that these GTIs are weird in that you’re actually supposed to do it the opposite way: DR Front, PASS Front, DR Rear, PASS Rear. After the leaky brake hoses fiasco, I decided to do it the “right” way (not that I think this had anything to do with the hoses leaking because I don’t). In all honesty, I’m not sure it makes that much of a difference which way you do it. I actually talked with someone who is a professional mechanic who has worked at VW dealerships and he said he always bled brakes on GTIs the traditional way. So, in the event that you’re bleeding your brakes the traditional way and it seems like the brake pedal is still soft and not holding pressure no matter how many times you go through the process, and if there is literally nothing else you can determine is wrong, you can always try this. *Some of the links above are Amazon affiliate links.
