Surrounded by the majestic Julian Alps, Lake Bled is something out of a fairytale. The calm, blue-green water is surrounded by craggy rock surrounding the lake. But the real gem is the tiny island in the middle of the lake, and the church built in 1465 that consumes the island - The Church of the Assumption (or Our Lady of the Lake as it's sometimes known). In this episode we take the adventurous route to the island and row across the lake even as it's snowing! After a snowball mishap on the island, we explore the grounds and the church before rowing back ashore. Next, we decide to mount the challenge of climbing hundreds of steps up to Bled Castle. This 11th century fortress provides stunning views Lake Bled and the surrounding area. Fun Fact - the island in the middle of Lake Bled is the only island in Slovenia!
