Get ready to get dirty. Color list: Titanium White, Cadmium Yellow Light, Cadmium Yellow Medium (some brands, like Winsor& Newton, just call it Cadmium Yellow), Cadmium Orange, Cadmium Red Light, Cadmium Red Medium (Cadmium Red Deep is fine if you already have it), Alizarin Crimson (Quinacridone Red is fine if you already have it), Quinacridone Magenta, Dioxizine Purple, Ultramarine Blue, Winsor&Newton Phthalo Turquoise (must be W&N), Phthalo Green, Winsor&Newton Permanent Green Light (must be W&N), Cadmium Green, Raw Umber, Burnt Umber, Ivory Black. I know this is a hefty list. As I mention in the video, if this is too much right now, only get the primary & secondary colors. You can fill in the rest over time. Also, if you want to cut costs, do not buy the Permanent Green Light and Cadmium Green. In a future video, I can show you how to mix all your greens from just Cadmium Yellow Light, Raw Umber, and Phthalo Green. If you do need to cut costs, do not do it by buying student grade paint (Winsor & Newton Winton or Gamblin 1980). It would serve you better to buy less paint by only doing the primary and secondary colors than buy inferior quality paint. Also, the general color list does not have to come from a particular manufacturer. I reference Gamblin in the video because that's the brand I recommend for my students. It is a decent quality paint, accessible at most local suppliers like Michael's and I believe Hobby Lobby, and reasonably priced. There are only two colors in the list above (Phthalo Turquoise and Permanent Green Light) where I specified Winsor& Newton as the brand. Finally, if you're in the buying mood and feel like picking up a few other colors that will serve you greatly in the long run, get Yellow Ochre Light or Pale (if you buy from Gamblin, Yellow Ochre is fine), Venetian Red, and Winsor&Newton Burnt Sienna. Terms: Hue- The name of the color. Value- The degree of lightness or darkness compared to black and white. Chroma- The intensity of the color.
