Full interview here: • Karyn Calabrese Interview - Health over 78... On this episode, I share a story from my 1992 pilgrimage to India that reshaped how I think about food, energy, and spiritual nourishment. Our group—people from all over the world, including doctors and lawyers—traveled to study Sufism and the Pali tradition. Along the way we heard about a Himalayan breatharian who hadn’t eaten solid food in a decade, and curiosity pulled a few of us up into the mountains to meet him. — We found him living in a cave with seven holy men. The atmosphere in that space was unlike anything I’d felt—quiet, powerful, joyfully still. When we stepped back out, we felt euphoric, as if intoxicated on peace. That encounter cracked open a deeper question: what truly feeds a human being? — They invited us to dinner. The meal: five nuts. But the way they ate changed everything I thought I knew about “enough.” Each tiny piece was chewed slowly, reverently, with total presence—turning a small portion into a complete experience. It wasn’t about volume; it was about vibration, awareness, and connection to life force. — That night taught me a radical lesson: food is not the ultimate source of life. Breatharians point to prana—sunlight, air, subtle energy—as real nourishment, much like trees thrive on sun and soil. I’m not saying everyone should stop eating. I am saying that a clean body and a quiet mind can receive energy in ways most of us forget to consider. — This story also reframed my approach to raw vegan and fruitarian ideas, fasting, and mindful eating. Whether or not breatharian practice is your path, you can taste the same principle through simple practices: sit in sunlight, breathe deeply, step barefoot on the earth, slow your meals, and let gratitude infuse every bite. Presence changes digestion, mood, and how “fed” you feel. — If you experiment with fasting, do it thoughtfully and safely. Work with your body, not against it. Gentle detox, meditation, and a plant-based focus can open the door to subtle nourishment without extremes. Let intuition, not ego, guide the process. — The pilgrimage reminded me that we’re more than consumers of calories—we’re conductors of energy. When you align intention, breath, and food quality, you begin to feel sustained by something larger. Even one mindful meal, one sunlit walk, or one deep breathing session can shift your state in minutes. — As you watch, consider where you might be “overfeeding” with volume and “underfeeding” with presence. Try chewing slowly. Pause between bites. Notice how pranic foods—fresh fruit, greens, herbs—carry sunlight. Notice how your mind quiets when you breathe at the pace of nature. — This conversation explores themes like breatharian practice, raw vegan and fruitarian living, spiritual awakening, Sufi teachings, fasting, mindful eating, prana and sunlight energy, Himalayan yogis, and the felt sense of being nourished from the inside out. It’s an invitation to remember that what we truly digest is not only food, but breath, light, and awareness. — If this resonates, share the episode with someone who could use a gentler relationship with food and a deeper relationship with life. May it inspire you to eat with presence, breathe with purpose, and let nature feed you in ways the grocery cart never will. Connect with Karyn: https://shopkaryns.com / karyncalabrese
