This week’s Telehealth Working Group examined the impact of the recent partial government shutdown and the temporary lapse in Medicare telehealth waivers, followed by passage of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2026. The group discussed the extension of Medicare telehealth flexibilities through December 31, 2027, the five-year extension of the Acute Hospital Care at Home program, and new policy provisions requiring HHS to create telehealth modifier codes to track certain billing practices. Members also explored CBO cost projections, ongoing debates around telehealth spending, and the broader path toward permanency.
