CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Pediatricians are sharing new details about the study on the dangers to babies from what's in your own nursery. They want busy moms and dads simply to know that some of the things that years ago may have been recommended for babies may have hidden health hazards. Pediatric emergency medicine specialists at the Cleveland Clinic say that they see all kinds of injuries from items such as infant strollers, carriers or bouncers. While not all of those injuries are serious, the recent study found injuries from those sources are on the rise. Researchers found that injuries were most common from baby carriers, cribs, and strollers. They also found that said injuries from crib-mobiles are fairly common. Those small strings can cause lacerations or can even be a strangulation hazard if the child is able to stand up in the crib and reach them. Other injuries reported came from humidifiers that get too hot and swaddling sacks that come up too high and raise the risk a baby will suffocate and removable car seats. If they are set down for just a minute on a table or another surface, sometime babies rock in them and they tumble down. A lot of the injuries reported in the study also came from recalled products that parents didn't know about. You are supposed to get an automatic notice if you register a product or have a warranty on it. Complete results of the study can be found in the journal Pediatrics.
