On August 25th 2021, an Iberia Airbus A330-300 aborted its take-off at 13:33 CEST / 11:33 UTC. Regrettably I was just too late to witness it. According to witnesses, the pilots aborted the take-off after a birdstrike in the left engine. After the birdstrike took place, the aircraft rolled almost all the way to the end of the 3800 meter runway, I think to reduce the overload on the brakes by stopping at immediate instance. The aircraft stood still at the end for 66 minutes before being towed back to the end of the runway. Blessing in disguise, the Polderbaan is the widest runway with 60 meters in width. The truck now was able to (just) make it in one turn, as can be seen at 07:52 Shortly after the aircraft was towed back, the runway was back into use again. The aircraft had been on its towed position for 32 minutes before it taxied to the runway again and took-off 5 minutes afterwards.
