We spent the day away from the parks and headed to Crystal River, Florida — home to one of the highest concentrations of manatees in the United States. During winter, these gentle sea cows migrate here for the constant 72°F spring water, making it one of the only places in the country where you can swim with manatees in the wild. We explored Hunter Spring Park, saw dozens of manatees up close, and kayaked alongside them before visiting Three Sisters Springs to learn how manatee season restrictions work. We break down the entry costs, parking fees, boardwalk access, and what’s actually allowed during peak season. A storm rolled in just as we finished, sending us back toward Orlando, where we stopped in downtown Kissimmee for BBQ before starting cruise packing. The next morning, we visited Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge to see the Christmas tree, gingerbread giraffe, and savannah animals before heading into Animal Kingdom park for a few hours.
