UUFR030126 Tasting Love in a Fearful Time with Marlie Avant

Using  a  Sufi  teaching  story,    MarlieMa  moves us  from  talking  about  love  to  directly  tasting  it.   Against  the  backdrop  of  immigration  crackdowns  and  the  resonant  echoes  of  past  injustices,  we  will  reflect  on different  movements  of  love  -  from  numbness  to  empathy,  to  fierce,  justice‑seeking  love,  and  to  boundless, all‑embracing  Divine  Love.  Through  two  healing  practices  (Tonglen  and  Ho‘oponopono),  we  will  explore  ways to  help  our  hearts  stay  open  and  responsive  in  fearful  times. Marlie  is  the  Lay  Minister  at  the  Unitarian  Universalist  Fellowship  of  the  Rappahannock.  Drawing  on  a  lifetime of  exploration  in  Western,  Eastern,  and  Indigenous  spiritual  traditions,  she  shares  stories  that  illuminate  our shared  humanity  and  invites  a  spirit  of  compassion,  connection,  and  community.
