In this episode of Social Sin, we expose a troubling reality of Indian television debates and social media discourse — the rise of so-called “self-proclaimed senior journalists” who function less like neutral observers and more like disguised party spokespersons. Across prime-time TV debates, a familiar pattern emerges. On paper, panels are meant to represent balance — voices from the opposition, ruling party, analysts, and experts. In reality, the opposition often finds itself isolated, outnumbered not just by ruling party representatives, but by anchors and “political analysts” who openly lean toward one ideology. What is presented as analysis frequently becomes coordinated narrative-building. This episode questions the very definition of a political analyst. Shouldn’t an analyst be informed, neutral, and accountable to the public rather than loyal to any party, caste, religion, or ideology? Shouldn’t their primary allegiance be to democratic values and public interest, not political power? We take a close look at media figures who brand themselves as “independent” and “senior,” while consistently echoing the talking points of one political ecosystem. Through examples from television debates, social media activity, YouTube content, and public statements, this episode examines how opinion masquerades as analysis, and activism is sold as journalism. The discussion also raises deeper concerns — shrinking space for dissent, fear surrounding criticism of those in power, and how post-2014 politics has transformed public debate into a hostile environment for journalists, academics, and ordinary citizens alike. This episode is not about personal attacks. It is about accountability, media ethics, and the urgent need to reclaim journalism from propaganda. If democracy depends on informed citizens, then media neutrality is not optional — it is essential.
