Embracing the philosophy of everyday carry means realizing your kit will change based on where you are, where you’re going, and what you’ll be doing on a given day. And don’t forget to think about the places you have to travel through to get where you’re going. That means everyday carry in 2022 is about a lot more than a CCW and a pocketknife. You also have to be comfortable with shedding certain items, or adding them when your clothes and activities allow. Sometimes you have to get away with what you can carry while wearing a suit — other times, you can haul around a small bag that contains everything you might need to address an emergency situation without drawing any attention. In this video, Mike Glover of Fieldcraft Survival gives you a tour of his personal everyday carry 2022 checklist that he has developed utilizing his many years of experience as a Special Forces operator who has worked in myriad environments around the world. What he chooses to carry, and not carry, with fall/early winter clothing could give you some valuable insights into your everyday carry setup. First, he breaks down the contents of the Patagonia fly fishing bag that he prefers to a more tactical-looking bag, precisely because it draws less attention, especially where he lives on the Provo River. Since he thinks of the bag as “extra” kit, he packs it with med gear. He says you can never carry enough tourniquets, considering you have four appendages, and anyone to whom you may need to render aid also has four. So, he has a couple of those in there, but there’s more to it. “Don’t just think about applying a tourniquet and first aid and trauma. That’s the easy part. Think about what you would do after the fact,” he says. “If I’m rural riding UTVs overlanding, I want to have the ability to splint the wounds. So you’ve got the Rigid Immobilization System for Extremities (RISE). It’s just a splint that allows you to immobilize an injury.” He also adds a ChitoGauze XR2 Pro hemostatic bandage to his “fly fishing” bag to create a fairly substantial med kit. But if he’s going somewhere where the bag can’t go, he still has a base of EDC gear that is ALWAYS on him. The list includes a Tac-Med Solutions SOF-TT Wide tourniquet in an IWB carrier next to a SIG Sauer P320 XCarry pistol with a 21-round magazine in a magnetic retention Fieldcraft Survival IWB holster worn in the appendix position. Yeah, that’s a pretty big carry gun, especially with that magazine, but Glover says he can pull it off because of his larger frame. You may be able to as well, or you might need a smaller option to avoid printing. The Carhardt vest he prefers in cooler weather also helps prevent the long mag from printing. He also carries a Surefire Stiletto Pro flashlight because it’s slim, easy to carry, rechargeable, and has multiple light intensity settings. He carries a flashlight that isn’t mounted on his pistol for the simple reason that he often uses the flashlight for utilitarian tasks that don’t require a firearm. “I don’t like gluing [my light] to my gun because I like to use it offset, and also, I’m going to use the light more often in utility, like ‘What’s under the hood,’ ‘What’s under the car.’ You wouldn’t want to use it for that tethered to a gun. Don’t be that guy,” he says. Beyond that, he gives careful consideration to everything else he wears including shoes, hat, pants, and belt, determining how they will function if things get hairy, and what other uses they might have in a pinch. The more you know, the more shit you can effectively deal with when things go sideways. — Contents of this video —————— 00:00 - Intro 00:27 - EDC Overview 01:15 - Mike’s EDC Bag 03:09 - Mike’s Standardized List 06:14 - Functionality of wear 09:07 - Ritual of EDC 09:35 - Final Thoughts __________________________________ Summer 2022 Check out our favorite new gear: https://freerangeamerican.us/dont-scr...
