The YouTube Channel 'StocktonFireHistory' is dedicated to memorializing the history, culture, and operations of the Stockton Fire Department. This week, StocktonFireHistory logged it's 1 Millionth view as a channel on YouTube. This channel is not monetized, and only exists to communicate to our public what our firefighters experience. Though intended to reach a local level, we have received feedback from across the state, nation, and world- telling us the fire job that the Stockton Fire Department does. We have been told several times that our content assists other departments with training, strategy, and tactics. To that extent (and to memorialize our 1 million views), we are posting this compilation of several of our video's 'Size-Ups.' The loose definition of a ''Size-Up' by the first-in Officer is: A quick evaluation of the incident; communicating a C.A.N. report (Conditions, Actions, and Needs); and establishing and passing Command. The C.A.N. report consists of: Conditions: Building size & type, fire and smoke showing, rescue, hazards, etc. Actions: Line selection and direction, rescue operations, forcible entry, etc. Needs: Secondary or back-up line, water supply, traffic control, 2 in / 2 out, etc. There are many variations of this throughout the fire-service. The response of the Stockton Fire Department frequently has apparatus showing up simultaneously, or within a minute or two. The first-in Officer is best suited to give a quick, concise, and calm C.A.N. report. To Our Public: Please watch and see what our firefighters must respond to on a daily basis. The Stockton Fire Department responds to 400 working structure fires a year. Stockton Firefighters must make split-second decisions that effect the saving of life, property, and the environment. This starts with the 'Size-up.' We are proud to serve and protect the citizens and City of Stockton, California. To The Fire Service: We understand that is may be different than the way some of you do it. This way works very well for us. There are dozens of other factors that we cannot explain in the video or description (i.e. line of sight communications, pre-designated actions per arriving units, varying Command structure, etc.). We offer this only as a training tool, for our own and for who ever else would like to use it. We thank you for your views, support, feedback, and comments. Comments that contain profanity, incite controversy, or are intended to 'troll' will be deleted. We can not express enough that this video is intended to educate the public on what Stockton Firefighters must encounter- not host a platform for people to argue about personal issues or the fire service. We reserve the right to delete comments as we see fit.
