In recent clinical studies, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections have shown promising results in the healing of torn tendons, challenging traditional surgical interventions as the primary treatment method. One study demonstrated an 87% reduction in tear size and 79% complete healing in participants treated with PRP, compared to far lower rates in a saline placebo group. Another study compared PRP injections to surgical repair for partial tears of the rotator cuff, finding a 96% success rate for PRP with similar long-term outcomes as surgery but quicker recovery times and fewer complications. While PRP is gaining traction as an effective treatment for various conditions like tennis elbow and plantar fasciitis, these recent findings specifically highlight its potential for treating partial to high-grade tendon tears. However, for complete tendon tears with fiber retraction, surgery remains the preferred option. These promising results still require validation through larger clinical trials. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37509... https://www.mdpi.com/2077-0383/12/17/... ► Things my patients have found helpful: Please note that I get a lot of requests and questions about what equipment is ‘best’ for treating a variety of conditions.
