Tower House Ruin Route Difficulty: Beginner Friendly The area around Blanding Utah was recently proclaimed a National Monument and is under quite a bit of controversy. It has many archaeological sites located there in the Four Corners region and this is part of the controversy over the monument designation of the Bears Ears. Whether you want to dive into the politics of it or not, the fact is that the area is magnificent. I'm lucky enough to have a son that lives there and runs a Canyoneering Guide operation and is familiar with the area and has some great locations to explore. While visiting in Late May 2019, he took us on a ride that ended at the Tower House Ruin. The ride was not difficult and can be accomplished via the highway in a normal vehicle for most of the ride. The last 1/2 mile is a bit bumpy and needs a moderate amount of clearance to park where we left our machines. Other than that, it was a fun ride that can be accomplished by any skill level of rider. This trip is also easily accomplished in a 1/2 day and can be combined with many other sites to see and visit in the area. On the way back to town we were shown some natural waterfalls along the route that many of the locals visit to cool off in the spring and early summer. They are fed by run off so they are not a year round thing. We left from the town of Blanding, Utah and headed basically west out of town landing on some dirt roads. Remember when visiting the archaeological sites there is a no disturb policy. It is illegal to climb in, crawl around or walk on, disturb, destroy, vandalize and otherwise be a complete idiot to the ruin sites. They are under the protection of the Federal Antiquities Act and many sites have hidden trail cams to monitor the sites and help protect them from being destroyed. Be careful, enjoy them, take nothing away except pictures and leave nothing behind except footprints.
